Hiroshima Christmas Lights in Winter of 2021

31MAY2022

I just got back from a trip to Kyoto. It was a ton of fun, and we took a bunch of pictures and those will go up at some point. I would like to post these more frequently, but I feel like I should be posting them in chronological order. There is no requirement to do that, and arguably it would be smarter to write blogs when they are fresher in memory, but something makes me think I should write them in the order they happened. Accordingly, I won't be writing about the Kyoto trip for a while, and not until after I write about the Tokyo trip.

Around Christmas time, people put up decorative lights around in public places. There were some in Iwakuni, but there was a much more impressive display in Hiroshima. We went over there on the train with a couple of friends of ours. We had dinner, walked around, hit the mall, looked at the lights, and then went back. There is no much commentary or history to them, so this is mostly just images.

The center piece of the whole thing was a large castle that you could walk through. There were plenty of people lined and up walking around inside, so we joined in a took pictures.

In addition to the typical christmas light arrangements, there were some other sorts of decorations. Here is one that includes non-light up elements.

Here's a picture of a phoenix:

Here's a picture of a whale. It's in two pieces, which is cute:

Here's a picture of a snow flake. It wasn't snowing at this point, but it did snow this winter, and it was magical for me, because I don't see snow normally.

Here's a picture of a unicorn:

Finally, tree that has been decorated in christmas lights. Not a christmas tree, by any means, but pretty looking regardless:
